Introduction
In this article, we’ll teach you how to export your courses and and content to a script document. You might want to do this in order to provide your course text to a subject matter expert for review.
Courses built in Nimble Author have a different script export from courses built in our original Nimble Author. They now export to a PDF file rather than a Word file, and you can now choose to export page preview images as well as course text.
If you still prefer to have your course script as a Word document, we'll tell you how you you can convert your PDF files to a different file format.
Top tips before you begin
- You can export you course script as text only, page preview images only, or with both text and preview images.
- Depending on your browser, you may be prompted to save the file, or it may attempt to open in it a new tab/window.
- You can use a program like Adode Acrobat Reader to markup and and add comments to your pdf file
- There are a variety of tools to convert .pdf files to other document types. e.g. Word can import pdf files, and there are many free to use online conversion tools such as, https://www.online-convert.com/ , https://convertio.co/ etc.
Exporting your course to a script
- Make sure your course is published. You can do this by going to the left hand menu, selecting the
'Publish' icon and checking the 'Publish course' settings. This will show you if and when the course was last published. If the course is still unpublished, or has any revisions pending, you can use the 'Publish' button to publish them.
- From the left hand menu select the
'Settings' button.
- On the 'Settings' panel, select 'Save content script'
- You now have the choice to export your script as either: Text only; Page preview image only; or Text and page preview images
- Select the type you want and click the 'Save' button
- The screen will show a 'You file is downloading...' message while it compiles your pdf file. This may take a few moments.
- Depending on your browser, it may then prompt you to save the file. Or alternatively, if your browser is set to block popups, it may show a message saying your browser prevented a popup form opening. e.g.
- If you browser is preventing a popup from opening, click on the Option button, and choose 'Allow' for this site:
- Your browser should then either save the file, or show a prompt asking what you want to do with the file. Typically you may want to save the file locally on your device.
- Make your choice and select 'OK'

Converting your PDF file to other document types
You can use programs like Microsoft Word or to open and re-save PDF files in other as other document types.
Additionally, there are also a many free to use online sites where you can convert a PDF to other file formats. e.g. https://document.online-convert.com/ , https://convertio.co/ etc.
