Introduction
In this article, we’re going to show you how to add text matching questions to your pages.
Top tips before you begin
- Text match questions allow you to ask your learners to type in an answer to a question.
- The learner gets the question correct if their response exactly matches one of the acceptable answers that have been set up.
- The text match exercise currently only allows a learner to provide a match to a single acceptable answer e.g. the learner is marked as correct if they respond with 'a' OR 'b' OR 'c'. The exercise does not currently allow matching to multiple acceptable answers e.g. we don't yet have a way to cater for questions where the learner has to respond with 'a' AND 'b' AND 'c'
- If you need the learner's answer to be case sensitive we have an option for that.
- Text matching questions can be used in pages throughout your course as a way to enhance interactivity, as well as in your assessment.
- If you want to add a text matching question to an assessment you can select one of the text matching templates when you 'Add assessment question' in the course structure menu.

Adding feedback (pages only)
You can add feedback text to your text match exercises that will be displayed once your learners have answered the question. This option is only available when adding text match questions to pages (feedback is not available in assessments). Don’t forget that the same text will be displayed whether the question was answered correctly or incorrectly, so you should make the text neutral to cover both of these circumstances.

How your learners interact with it
Once you’ve added a text match question, your learners simply type in their answer.
If your text match question is on a page, your learner will be informed whether they answered correctly or incorrectly and your feedback text will be displayed.
If it is part of an assessment no feedback will be displayed, as assessment questions do not show feedback.
