In this article, we’ll teach you how to set up learner fields. Learner fields can be used to add additional layers of organisation on top of groups. For example, if you need to be able to filter* by your learners’ department and the location that they work from, you might:
- Create groups for your departments
- Add a learner field for location
*Please note: within Nimble you can only filter by one learner field at a time. All fields appear in results exports to allowing you to manipulate your data further using software such as Microsoft Excel.
Adding learner fields
To add learner fields:
- From the Nimble LMS home screen, click the
Settings button from the top left navigation bar.
- Click the Site tab.
- Click the
button.
- Click the
button.
- Complete the fields:
- Label – The name of the field, as you’d like it to be displayed.
- Description – An additional description for your field, if you’d like it to be displayed beneath to help your users understand how to fill it in.
- From the Type drop-down select whether the field should be a text box or a Dropdown field.
- If you choose a dropdown field (which we recommend) the Select options field becomes available. Enter all of the options that you would like to be present, with each option on a separate line.
Important note: We recommend that you use the dropdown field type wherever possible. This makes it easy to search an filter based upon it.
- From the Mandatory field, select:
- No – The field is optional and can be left blank when adding a learner.
- Yes – The field must be filled in and an error will occur if it’s left blank when adding a learner.
- From the Filter visibility, select:
- Hidden in filters – You won’t be able to filter based upon this.
- Visible in filters – You will be able to filter based upon this.
- From the Learner interface field, select:
- Hidden – The field will not be visible for learners
- Include in learner interface – The field will be visible within the learner interface
- Click the
button.
