Adding labelled graphics to an image
Select which of these options you want from the 'Labelled graphic type' at the top of the page. If you decide to change your mind at any point, you can switch types whenever you want, keeping your text and buttons in place, you may just have to adjust the hotspot area to suit.
You can have up to ten buttons on a labelled graphic.
A note on image sizes
If you're creating images to use with Nimble Author, here are the following sizes they will be displayed at within the course, on a full size page:
- Single column page - images display 700 pixels wide
- Two column page - images display 476 pixels wide
So you should avoid creating images smaller than these sizes, otherwise images will be resized, and may look softer.
DPI of the image isn't really relevant in Nimble Author, as that's more of a factor when printing image, but we suggest the web standard of 72 pixels/inch.
Labels
The labels interaction works a lot like the rollover popup text you already know from our original Nimble Author Classic. Watch our video below and find out more!
Customise your label icons
You told us that you should be able to customise your icons when labelling graphics. We agreed! Now you can tailor your icons based upon the purpose of your label. Choose between:
- Warning
- Notes
- Additional
- Info
- Notification
Hidden hotspots
The hidden hotspots option works a lot like the labels option, as seen in the video above, but allows you to create invisible rectangular buttons that you can adjust the size of. The learner also has an option to show the hotspots, making them visible if they need help finding them all.
Setting up hotspots
Adding hotspots is very easy:
- From the left hand 'Add content' menu, drag a labelled graphic interaction on to the page
- Click the edit button on the interaction
- Select the 'hidden hotspots' label type.
You'll get a popup asking you to confirm switching label types. simply click 'confirm.
This will bring up the Hidden hotspot interface
- Click the
button to select an image you want to use for the interaction. Either upload your own, or choose one from the library.
Start adding hotspots to the image.
- Use the
button to add more hotspots.
- Click and drag a hotspot to position it where you want it on the image.
- Click the hotspot again to bring up the sizing controls. Dragging the controls points lets you adjust the size and shape of your hotspot.
- In the text field below, add the text you want your learners to see when they click on the hotspot.
- Repeat steps 5 - 8 until you've got as many hotspots as you need.
- When you're done, simply click the
button to return to your page. Super – you’ve added a hotspot interaction.
The hotspots show as dotted lines in Nimble Author, but will be invisible to the learner. The learner has the option to see the dotted lines if they click on the Show button.
Deleting a label or a hotspot
When you're editing a labelled graphic, if you want to delete a hotspot or label button, simply click on it, and select the delete button at the bottom right of the page.
NOTE: If you only have a single button on the page, there won't be an option to delete it, as this interaction requires a minimum of one button.
