Video improvements
Based upon your feedback, we've made a number of improvements to videos as part of this release.
Mandatory videos
You told us that sometimes when creating courses that contain elearning videos, you'd like to be able to ensure that learners have watched the video through to the end. Now you can!
- From the bar that runs down the left of the side menu, click the Settings button.
- From the side menu, click Course settings.
- Under the Video section, toggle All videos are mandatory to on.
Once mandatory videos are enabled:
- Your learners will not be able to progress to the next page of your course until they've reached the end of the video.
- If your learners try to move onto the next page and they haven't reached the end of the video, they'll receive a message letting them know to do this.
Error message for invalid Vimeo links
Many Nimble customers use Vimeo for hosting their videos. Vimeo offers powerful controls that allow you to decide who can and can't see videos. Sometimes people would add a Vimeo video to their course but couldn't be sure why it wasn't working.
Now, if you add a Vimeo video to the course and:
- The URL for the video doesn't exist
- The privacy settings for the video are preventing the video from displaying
... you'll see the below error in Nimble Author.
Sometimes a Vimeo video that has previously been working without issue might stop working. This could be because the video has been deleted from Vimeo, or the privacy settings changed. In that case, your learners will also see the above error and also a pop-up message like the one below.
Topic transitions
Nimble Author allows you to break your courses down into topics. You can think of topics in the same way as chapters in a book - they keep your content neatly organised and make it intuitive for your learners. You told us that sometimes you'd like an automated indication for your learners when they move between topics - and we listened! To enable topic transitions for your course:
- From the bar that runs down the left of the side menu, click the Settings button.
- From the side menu, click Course settings.
- Under the Topic transitions section, toggle Display transitions between course topics to on.
Now, when your learners reach the end of a topic or assessment and the next page is the start of a new topic or assessment, then:
- The next page button will appear as a folder icon with an arrow in it.
- When the next page button is clicked and the learner moves into the next topic, a notification will be displayed. This automatically disappears after a few seconds, or when the learner selects outside of it.
The same also applies when moving backwards into a different topic. To better understand topic transitions, just watch the animated GIF below!
Two new languages - Lithuanian and Romanian
We've added two new languages to Nimble Author - Lithuanian and Romanian. To change the language of your course:
- From the bar that runs down the left of the side menu, click the Settings button.
- From the side menu, click Course settings.
- Under the Course language section, select the language you'd like to use.
Please note that languages only translate elements of your course such as the Submit button on questions. For more information about languages, please see: How to change the course language
Updates to results exports
We've updated the results export so that it includes the record_id and course_id information. This will be helpful to more advanced users that perform more advanced analysis of their results using third-party systems such as a Microsoft PowerBI or Google Data Studio.
