Introduction
In this article, we’re going to show you how to add external links (hyperlinks) to your text.
Top tips before you begin
- You can add external links (hyperlinks) to your text in the following places:
- Body text
- Feature text
- Text popups
- Accordions
- Labelled graphics
- Multiple choice (in the feedback text)
- Drag and drop (in the feedback text)
- Free text (in the feedback text)
- When your learners click an external link (hyperlink) you’re referring them to a page outside of your course. Don’t forget that this might mean that they get distracted and browse away from your course! Before adding a hyperlink, give some thought to whether you might be able to attach the content as a PDF instead.
Adding an external link (hyperlink)
To add a hyperlink:
- Whilst editing your text, select the words that you’d like to add a hyperlink to
- From the toolbar, click the External link (
) button

Select 'Link to external site'. If the 'Link to a pop-up' is already in use, you will need to remove thisfirst.

Type or paste the web address that you’d like to link to
- Click the Okay button
NOTE: If you try to use the link in Nimble Author it won't launch the URL when you're in 'edit mode'. But if you click on Done editing button (in the bottom right of the screen), then the links should become 'clickable' and go to the appropriate URL.
How your learners interact with it
When a link is added to your text, the linked text is underlined and followed by a . When your learner clicks the link, it’ll be opened in a new tab.
