In this article, we’ll teach you how to multiple learners to your LMS so that you can enrol them onto courses. Importing learners is the best way to add lots of learners at once. If you only want to add one or two learners, it might be quicker to add them individually.
Adding multiple learners
To add multiple learners:
- From the LMS home page, click the Learners button.
- Click
.
- To import your learners, you’ll need to create a CSV file containing their details. A CSV file is just a spreadsheet but it’s important that you use the template we provide. To download it, click [template.csv].
NOTE: For the spreadsheet to import, it needs the column headings in row one [firstname, lastname, etc] to be exactly as they appear in row one of the template.csv file. Do not edit or delete row one with the column headings in.
When you import learners, you choose the group that the learners in the file you’ve created should belong to. Because of that, if you want to put some learners into one group and some into another, you need to create a separate CSV file for each group.
- Complete the required fields, ensuring that you leave the column headings exactly as they are.
- Firstname – The learner’s first name.
- Lastname – The learner’s last name.
- Username The username you'd like the user to log in with (only available if username logins have been enabled on your account - not sure? Just contact your Customer Success Manager).
- Email – The learner’s email address.
- Password – Just leave this field blank unless you specifically need to set one. When you first enrol the learner onto a course, they’ll be prompted to log in and pick their own password.
Your completed CSV file should look something like the one below.
- Save the file to somewhere on your computer where you will be able to easily find it, such as the Desktop.
NOTE: You need to save the spreadsheet as a .csv file.
- Back in your web browser, click the
button.
- Select the CSV file that you wish to import.
- Select the group that you want to add the learners to or add a new one by typing in a name for the group.
- Click the
button.
- You’ll be shown a summary of the learners that have been imported successfully. If any were unsuccessful, you’ll see them shown in the Unsuccessful section with a reason for the error. If you want to amend any errors, do so in the CSV file and return to step 6.
- Click the
button. Smashing – you’ve imported your learners.
