What is a course template?
Essentially it's a partially built course, containing common elements you want to reuse to build other courses from. For example, things like branding, logos, or pre-uploaded assets that you want to have available for each course. Creating a course already containing these things gives you a pre-built 'starting block' that you can duplicate and build courses from, and saves you time from having to re-add the same content each time you build a new course. It can also quickly create consistency between your courses.

Create a new course
In the 'Courses' page of the LMS, add a new course, by clicking the 'Add a new course' or 'Add a new course here' buttons. You might want to give course a name that includes 'Template'

Upload images or other assets
Upload any images and other assets that you think you'll regularly want to use in other courses, and add them onto a single page in the template (this bit is important otherwise they won't appear in courses that are duplicated from it). Only images that are used within course pages get copied. Any unused assets in the library won't be copied.

Other things you may wish to include
Set up a glossary and/or resources
Pages that you reuse a lot
If you have particular pages you want to reuse across multiple courses, you may wish to create those in your template, to save you from having to rebuild them from scratch each time you build a new course.
How to use a template
Once you've created a template (or any other existing course), you can duplicate it and use the copy as the basis for a new course.
How to duplicate your course
- Next to the course you’d like to duplicate, click the
icon to access the 'course settings' page.
- Click Duplicate this course
- Enter a name for your new course
- Click confirm
Within a few moments your course should be duplicated, with a "Successfully duplicated course!" message. You should find your duplicate in the same folder as the original course.
